Feathering the nest of a hollowed out heart, a fort is created for the sole purpose of composing songs for various birds or one specific bird should you so choose. Composers often spend much of their free time solving practical problems such as limitations and uses of the syrinx, the role of feathers and air moisture in birdsong composition and the resonance of hollow bones. This fort is architecturally modelled after an early, more fluid version of the original flute, which, according to legend, has the magic talent of giving bird feathers iridescence when played. Each birdsong just so happens to have a fungus familiar whose growth is initiated by a specific bird's song. Meditation upon and entrance into the fort is controlled by the querent's rhythm, depth and quality of breath.

This piece is 8 inches tall, 4 inches long and 3 inches wide.
